What are people eating in Banke, Nepal? Food consumption, food security, food sources, and food perceptions

december, 2022
India

The Transforming Agrifood Systems in South Asia (TAFSSA) district agrifood systems assessment aims to provide a reliable, accessible, and integrated evidence base that links farm production, market access, dietary patterns, climate risk responses, and natural resource management with gender as a cross-cutting issue in rural areas of Bangladesh, India, and Nepal. It is designed to be a district-level multi year assessment.

Synthesis of baseline GHG emission data and estimation methods in aquatic food systems in Vietnam

december, 2022
Malaysia

Drawing data and information from desk-based reviews, key informant interviews, and group discussions with relevant stakeholders in Vietnam, this working paper compiled and analyzed emission baseline data of greenhouse gas (GHG) from Vietnamese aquatic food systems, focusing on key aquaculture systems of fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweed, together with capture fisheries and post-harvesting and processing of aquatic foods.

Characteristics of feed resources for smallholder dairy production and potential for improvement: The case of Adea and Bahir Dar Zuria districts of Ethiopia

december, 2022
Ethiopia

Under the CGIAR Initiative on Sustainable Animal Productivity, research for development work has been undertaken to enhance production efficiency of smallholder dairy farmers through integrated
genetics, nutrition, and health interventions in selected districts of Ethiopia (Adea and Bahir Dar Zuria). The research sites were purposely selected to align with an ongoing dairy genetic
improvement program. The nutrition intervention was informed by focus group discussions, individual farm visits, and key informant interviews. The following were the main messages from the

A nexus approach to support natural resource management in the Blue Nile Basin of Ethiopia

december, 2022
Ethiopia

In Ethiopia’s Tana-Beles region, water, energy, food and ecosystems (WEFE) are tightly interconnected, making a nexus approach highly relevant. Through the CGIAR Initiative on NEXUS Gains, researchers from the Alliance of Bioversity-CIAT and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) have been working on nexus tools, including the FABLE calculator and scenario tool at the national level, and the integrated water storage diagnostic in the Tana-Beles, a sub-basin of the Blue Nile River Basin.

Narrowing the skill and knowledge gaps of young researchers on pest surveillances, diagnostics and integrated pest and disease management on wheat and food legumes in East Africa and CWANA regions

december, 2022
Lebanon

Many young researchers working in plant protections lacks skills and knowledge on pest and disease
surveillances, identification, disease/pest measurements, pest and disease dynamics, Integrated Pest and
Disease Management (IPDM) options and different aspects of conducting plant protection research and
generating quality results. Skill and knowledge gaps are pronounced mainly on emerging and new
diseases, new pathogen pathotypes and races affecting food legumes. In addition, the training help

Major viruses affecting food legumes in Morocco

december, 2022
Morocco

Food legumes play an important role in Morocco's agricultural landscape. They cover approximately 270,000 hectares, representing 4% of the total agricultural area. The productivity of food legumes has persistently remained low and variable, primarily attributed to the susceptibility of the crop to environmental stresses, diseases, insect pests, and parasitic weeds. To set priorities for the development of new varieties and disease management, status and identification of viruses affecting legume crops is essential in the different production areas.

Development and evaluation of eco-friendly biopesticides against aphids and pod borer of food legumes in Morocco

december, 2022
Morocco

Temperate food legumes (faba bean, chickpea, field pea and lentil) are important food and feed crops in West Asia, north and East Africa regions. The productivity of legume crops is affected by Aphids (Acyrthosiphon pisum and Aphis fabae) and pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera). Due to climate and farming systems changes, the impacts of insect pests are increasing, and farmers are discouraged from including food legumes in their cropping systems. Besides direct economic damage, many aphid species play important roles as vectors of legume viruses like Pea seed-borne mosaic virus.
