Land is being degraded rapidly worldwide. Our current agricultural practices are causing soils worldwide to be eroded up to 100 times faster than natural processes replenish them. At this critical moment, enabling the full contribution of women to halting land degradation and tackling drought is needed now more than ever.

Women comprise nearly half of the world’s agricultural workforce, producing 60–80 per cent of the food grown in developing countries1, so are poised to lead on sustainable land management practices while keeping their families and communities fed.

This report provides new data about the current and potential future losses and damages from climate-attributable weather events in the Sahel and Horn of Africa, with a specific focus on the agriculture and livestock sectors.

Dans le Sud du Bénin, le lotissement, une des formes d’aménagement les plus utilisées actuellement, se multiplie jusqu’à atteindre de plus en plus les zones rurales. A cet effet, il impacte sur les activités agricoles et exerce une influence considérable sur le changement de la dynamique d’occupation du sol au détriment notamment des usages agricoles et de leur fonction de ressources alimentaires et paysagères.

They provide a thorough assessment of the current status of forests, the forestry sector, and the investment needs to sustainably manage this valuable renewable natural resource.

Ce cahier fait la synthèse des dynamiques du foncier rural en Algérie depuis les années 1960. Il analyse en trois temps le processus de transition qui a conduit le pays de l’autogestion à la concession des terres observé au cours de ces cinquante dernières années. Basé sur une documentation riche comme la consultation d’archives et la réalisation d’enquêtes auprès d’acteurs clé durant plusieurs années, il aborde la question des structures agraires et  des évolutions de la paysannerie algérienne ainsi que des politiques publiques agricoles qui s’y rattachent.

Aujourd’hui, la périurbanisation est reconnue comme un phénomène mondial animée par différents déterminants (poussée démographique, développement industriel, crise de la ruralité, etc.). En effet, les territoires périurbains sont des espaces qui reçoivent l’excédent de la croissance démographique urbaine et qui accueillent les nouveaux projets d’aménagement et de développement (promotions immobilières, implantations de zones d’activités diverses, développement des réseaux de communication, maintien ou développement de certaines agricultures, etc.).

Developing countries are increasingly focusing more on land policy as part of their development plans. Ghana created its National Land Policy in 1999 but hasn't updated it in over 25 years, despite significant changes in land governance. Land policy reforms since colonial times were carried out without a structured plan, leading to problems in land management and many legal disputes due to existing land laws' shortcomings. This situation prompted the development of a thorough Land Policy in 1999.

From the 3rd to 6th September, 2023, we the people of the great lands across Africa, including people from social movements and civil society, trade unions, women, indigenous peoples, young people, men, people living with disabilities, media organisations, faith-based groups and many others, gathered in Nairobi, Kenya and committed to this declaration on African climate and development priorities and demands.

This case study tells the story of Yusuf Matubbarer Dangi Village as a microcosm of the existential threat posed by river erosion and flooding to the country of Bangladesh. This village also encapsulates the experience of communities who are rendered landless when floods swallow up their properties and who then have to wait for new land to emerge from the river in the simultaneous erosion and accretion of land when the river swells.
