Forest Tenure

Les forêts et les zones boisées fournissent des moyens de subsistance à de nombreuses communautés qui dépendent du bois d'œuvre, du bois de chauffage, des matériaux de construction, des produits forestiers non ligneux, du fourrage, de la nourriture, des plantes médicinales et de l'eau. Selon la FAO, plus de 2,6 milliards de personnes dépendent des forêts et de leurs produits et services, qui sont pour la plupart utilisés de manière informelle. Malgré l'importance de la réforme de la tenure forestière, celle-ci n'a pas reçu suffisamment d'attention. La tenure forestière et les droits de propriété déterminent qui possède et gère les ressources forestières.

The session explored the intersection of Indigenous Peoples' and Local Communities' tenure rights, livelihoods, and conservation, emphasizing the importance of rights-based approaches (RBAs) in achieving sustainable development and conservation outcomes. The discussion began with a global review by CIFOR-ICRAF on the implementation of RBAs in development and climate action projects, identifying critical success factors and challenges, alongside a set of recommendations for improving project design and execution.
