This paper examines some of the key technical, institutional, policy and financial responses required to achieve climate-smart agriculture which sustainably increases productivity, resilience (adaptation), reduces/removes Greenhouse Gases (mitigation), and enhances achievement of national food security and development goals. Building on case studies from the field, the paper outlines a range of practices, approaches and tools aimed at increasing the resilience and productivity of agricultural production systems, while also reducing and removing emissions.

Este documento examina algunas de las respuestas técnicas, institucionales, políticas y financieras clave y necesarias para lograr una agricultura climáticamente inteligente que incrementa de manera sostenible la productividad, la resilencia (adaptación), reduce/elimina GEI (mitigación) y fortalece los logros de metas nacionales de desarrollo y de seguridad alimentaria.

This report contains the proceedings of the first workshop of an EC funded project designed to help Malawi obtain the tools, knowledge and capacities to adopt, advance, scale up and roll out solutions towards Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). The aim of the workshop was to produce qualitative scenarios of Malawi's socio-economic futures, which will help make the analysis and quantitative modelling around CSA more robust and comprehensive.

En este número nos proponemos estudiar la Asociación Mundial de la Bioenergía y la importante labor llevada a cabo por esta entidad en colaboración con gobiernos y organizaciones internacionales para establecer unos indicadores de sostenibilidad destinados a los proyectos bioenergéticos. También informaremos sobre «Alimentos para las ciudades», una iniciativa integrativa orientada a coordinar las actividades de la FAO en zonas urbanas y periurbanas, y a compartir con otras organizaciones internacionales y de la sociedad civil las mejores prácticas realizadas en este ámbito.

Identificar las principales dificultades y limitaciones que afectan a la seguridad alimentaria en la ciudad de Lima y, en particular, a los sistemas de abastecimiento y la distribución de alimentos (SADA); 2. Identificar las acciones prioritarias para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria de los consumidores urbanos de menores ingresos.

In this issue, we discuss the Global Bioenergy Partnership and the important work it is undertaking - in collaboration with governments and international organizations - to establish sustainability indicators for bioenergy projects. We also report on the Food for the Cities Initiative, an integrative approach to coordinating FAO's activities in urban and peri-urban areas and sharing best practices with other international and civil society organizations. Finally, we introduce the new water report: Climate change, water and food security.
