This publication summarized the activities of the project (Coping with water scarcity – the role of agriculture- Phase III: Strengthening national capacities in Lebanon). The project has helped improve the national, regional and local capacity to cope with water scarcity, as a result of an improved knowledge on how water is being used in the agricultural sector. The ultimate beneficiaries of the project were the communities of the Bekaa area, who benefited from development programme, the pilot project and interventions utilizing water for agriculture and more efficiently.

El presente informe analiza el nuevo conocimiento sobre emisiones antropogénicas de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) procedentes de actividades de la agricultura, la silvicultura y otros usos de la tierra (AFOLU por sus siglas en inglés) disponibles gracias a la nueva base de datos sobre Emisiones de FAOSTAT. La base de datos está disponible mundialmente, detallada por países, para todas las subcategorías de agricultura, silvicultura y suelos disponibles en FAOSTAT y en la Evaluación de Recursos Forestales (FRA por sus siglas en inglés).

This AQUASTAT report presents the most recent information available on water resources and their use in the 22 countries in the Southern and Eastern Asia region. Clearly it has an emphasis on agricultural water use and management. But in addition it contains the relevant tables and maps, and a regional synopsis emphasizing the particular characteristics of this large and diverse region. It also analyses the changes that have occurred since the first survey in 1999.

The Study Tour was financed by the UNDP and had the following objectives. To gain knowledge and experience in: - The multiplication of Azolla as a source of biological nitrogen, particular attention being paid to propagation of Azolla and its protection form disease, insect damage and adverse climatic conditions. - Harvesting and agricultural use of Azolla. - Contruction of small-scale biogas units. - Management of biogas units and efficient use of the gas by farming communities and of the effluents for improving soil fertility
