República Centroafricana

La República Centroafricana (RCA) es, como su nombre indica, un país continental situado en el corazón de África. La historia del país está salpicada de conflictos recurrentes, alimentados por grupos rebeldes que intentan controlar el acceso a los recursos naturales del país (diamantes, oro, ganado y madera). El Estado sólo es capaz de controlar eficazmente una parte del territorio, y el resto permanece bajo el control de facciones armadas rivales. La inestabilidad sociopolítica, la debilidad de las instituciones estatales y el hecho de que el país carezca de litoral y esté fragmentado dificultan la producción agrícola. Sin embargo, el país está progresando en el ámbito de la silvicultura comunitaria.

Se calcula que hay 35.034 explotaciones en 186 zonas mineras. La mayor parte del volumen estimado de diamantes (82%) y oro (95%) se exporta ilegalmente. En este contexto, "es la ley del más fuerte la que garantiza la gobernanza de las tierras mineras".
