UNASUR conmemoró el 23 de mayo de 2018, el décimo aniversario de la firma de su Tratado Constitutivo, con una sede permanente de su Secretaría Ejecutiva medio abandonada en Quito Ecuador, y una sede del Parlamento Sudamericano en Cochabamba Bolivia que se utilizó ocasionalmente un par de veces.

“El agua es vida” se dice comúnmente, y este dicho tiene aún mayor sentido en comunidades del mundo rural latinoamericano donde habitan 65,6 millones de personas, incluyendo a unas 45 millones de personas de más de 800 pueblos indígenas (CEPAL. Los pueblos indígenas en América latina: Avances en el último decenio y retos pendientes para la garantía de sus derechos. Santiago de Chile, 2014). El agua, es el bien común entorno del cual transcurre la vida rural, y el más complejo de gestionar.

At its 42nd Plenary session in 2015, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) decided to hold a global thematic event at the 43rd session in October 2016 to share experiences and take stock of the use and application of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT), as a contribution to monitoring progress towards VGGT implementation. This second global stocktake on the VGGT is informed by the contributions received from stakeholders.

Las Directrices Voluntarias sobre la Gobernanza Responsable de la Tenencia de la Tierra, la Pesca y los Bosques en el Contexto de la Seguridad Alimentaria Nacional (DVGT) establecen principios y normas internacionalmente aceptados obre prácticas responsables, proporcionando un marco de referencia para los gobiernos, el sector privado y la sociedad civil a la hora de elaborar políticas y programas para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria.

Securing Indigenous Peoples and local communities’ land rights is an urgent matter – especially in the light of increasing resource demands and related conflicts. The Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (Tenure Guidelines) provide a historic opportunity to recognize and secure tenure rights.

In a landmark decision, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) endorsed a set of far-reaching global guidelines aimed at helping governments safeguard the rights of people to own or access land, forests, and fisheries. The new Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security outline principles and practices that governments can refer to when making laws and administering land, fisheries and forests rights.
