Lesotho joined the Organization in 1966 and has enjoyed close cooperation with FAO since the establishment of the country office in 1983. The main thrust of assistance has been on the formulation and implementation of policies, programmes and projects aimed at improving agricultural output, natural resources management and food and nutrition security. More recently, important features of cooperation have included response to agricultural emergencies, climate change adaptation and promotion of sustainable land management principles and practices.

Samoa joined FAO in 1979 and has hosted the FAO Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands since 1996, covering 14 island states. Over the past 35 years, FAO assistance has focused on building the evidence base and capacities for policy-making, strengthening animal and plant protection and boosting agricultural productivity and marketing in the face of climate change. Samoa is involved in FAO’s new initiative on Value Chains for Food Security and Nutrition in the Pacific Islands.

A thematic study on “Urban and peri-urban forestry” focuses on the potentials and constraints for urban forestry development at regional and sub-regional levels considering the current experience and future prospects of urbanization in the region that is expected to take place in the next 15 years. As a complement to this thematic Urban and peri-urban forestry study, a livelihoods analysis of the contribution of forests and trees to urban poor livelihoods has been carried out the Sub-programme on access to natural resources of the Livelihood Support Programme (GCP/INT/803/UK).

Партнерство между Узбекистаном и ФАО динамично развивается со времени вступления страны в Организацию в 2001 году. Отношения сторон стали еще крепче с открытием в 2014 году Представительства ФАО и подписанием Соглашения с принимающей страной. Техническая помощь, предоставляемая путем национальных и региональных проектов, охватывает широкий спектр отраслей, включая диверсификацию сельскохозяйственных культур, улучшение ветеринарного обслуживания и производства продукции животноводства, усиление борьбы с саранчой и роста производства рыбной продукции.

The objective of the workshop was to discuss in particular the various aspects of global soil information (Pillar 4 of the GSP) and the related information gathered by the e-SOTER project. The presentations and discussion were subdivided in four main sessions dealing with the following subjects: Status and needs of Global Soil Information Tools for polygon-based soil mapping (e-SOTER) Tools for Digital Soil Mapping The way-forward for Global Soil Information

In preparing an investment project, development strategies and project components are defined and revisited during project formulation through a consultative process that often includes Socio-economic and Production Systems Studies. These studies are conducted to develop an appreciation of the situation in which the intended beneficiaries live, and their perceptions of their problems, needs and priorities.

La sostenibilidad es un factor medular del nuevo Marco Estratégico de la FAO, y es el foco específico del Objetivo Estratégico 2, consistente en un aumento sostenible del suministro de bienes y servicios de la agricultura, la actividad forestal y la pesca. El presente informe es el fruto de un proceso intensivo de consultas y debates encaminados a elaborar un enfoque común para la labor realizada por la FAO en materia de sostenibilidad.

FAO opened the Nigeria Representation Office in 1978, and has since provided unabated support to the country in the formulation and implementation of policies, strategies, programmes and projects in food, agriculture and natural resources. The cooperation aims to improve food security and nutrition and reduce poverty in a broad-based, equitable and sustainable manner. In providing this assistance, FAO has always focused on enhancing the livelihood of smallholders, who form the bulk of the rural poor, in a way that is technically, economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.

In this issue, we look at a new publication entitled â¿¿Payments for ecosystem services and food securityâ¿¿. This document was produced as part of preparatory process for FAOâ¿¿s participation in the Rio+20 event to be held in 2012. We also look ahead to World Water Week to be held 21-27 August in Stockholm, Sweden, where FAO will participate in a seminar anticipating the theme of 2012â¿¿s World Water Day â¿¿ Water and Food Security.
