The Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), with support from the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), performed the Ghana Land Tenure Baseline Survey, the first of its kind survey of tenure rights among cocoa farmers in Ghana. CRIG surveyed almost 1,800 cocoa farmers operating 3,900 cocoa plots regarding various land tenure issues within customary sharecropping arrangements and on owner-managed land. This report describes the findings from the Survey.

This LEGEND bulletin takes stock of some of the recent experience in legal empowerment. The result is a kaleidoscope of approaches operating at different levels, but pursuing broadly converging agendas.

El caso muestra las capacidades para generar mayor resiliencia ante el cambio climático y un imperativo para detener la migración. Se trata de un caso de retorno a la tierra de campesinos que habían salido del país, atraídos por la solidaridad articulada de tres comunidades que se decidieron por habilitar el riego para la agricultura.

Los comuneros de Tola Chica, en Ecuador, resisten varios intentos de quitarles su tierra, pero esta lucha no impide que continúen con procesos internos de cohesión en los que la fiesta anual juega un papel importante.

Un caso de ocupación de tierras y legalización, apelando a la soberanía nacional en frontera. Se encuentra en un contexto dicotómico, el poder central en una zona fronteriza lejana y la necesaria integración en dos economías, dos culturas, dos grupos de un territorio descuidado y olvidado por sus respectivos Estados. Por eso, se trata de un tema interesante de acceso a la tierra.

La familia Condori del Ayllu Layme que migró del departamento de Potosí a la región de los Yungas de La Paz. Se estableció en la comunidad Asunta Chica y tuvieron que adaptarse al clima amazónico y la discriminación de los oriundos. Plantan y comercializan la hoja de coca. Todo esto sin perder la esencia espiritual, ritual y ancestral de sus orígenes.

Las dos historias de vida que se presentan en este documento muestran las estrategias que dos mujeres asumieron para superar la discriminación en el acceso a la tierra vía herencia, empleando para ello en un caso, la negociación y los acuerdos familiares, y en el otro, la compra venta negociada.
