A capital Luanda tem uma população de mais de 8 milhões de pessoas e é a quinta maior cidade da África.  Angola ainda está lutando para se recuperar dos impactos combinados da escravidão, décadas de luta anti-colonial seguidas de um êxodo em massa de colonos e uma guerra civil de 27 anos que foi desencadeada desde a independência em 1976 até 2002.
