Paul Munro-Faure, Deputy Director and Francesco Romano, Land Tenure Officer of the FAO Partnership, Advocacy and Capacity Development Division explain how supporting responsible governance of tenure is critical to achieving food security and allowing families to invest in sustainable production. In a landmark decision, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) endorsed a set of far-reaching global guidelines aimed at helping governments safeguard the rights of people to own or access land, forests, and fisheries. Orieta Belokon y Walter Mesa son colonos del INC en la Colonia San Javier. Ambos iniciaron siendo asalariados rurales. A la par empezaron a producir alquilando tierras.Luego gracias a su trabajo en la producción de leche accedieron a un crédito bancario para comprar sus tierras. Actualmente, además, alquilan una fracción al INC y continúan produciendo leche. Apuesta por su vida en el campo.

The webinar on the Forest Rights and Governance in India took place on 30 January, 2018. The webinar discussed why has there been variation in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act and identified institutional bottlenecks to upscaling its implementation, as well as lessons learned from existing best practices.
The webinar addressed implementation of the Forest Rights Act, its inclusion of traditional forest dwellers - men and women, innovations that have proven successful, and questions of governance and its impact on the forest rights discourse and policies.

Palm oil companies risk losing up to $22.1 million from land tenure disputes

Depending on the size and location of their investment, oil palm producers and investors risk losing between $8.3 and $22.1 million due to operational delays caused by active land tenure disputes. These numbers have emerged from the Tenure Risk Tool (TRT), a due diligence tool designed by the Quantifying Tenure Risk (QTR) initiative to help businesses understand their exposure to tenure risk in sub-Saharan Africa. 
 
This brief shares findings from TRT analysis using data collected from palm oil producers in Liberia, Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire.
