This report is a shorter version of World agriculture: towards 2015/2030, FAO's latest assessment of the long-term outlook for the world's food supplies, nutrition and agriculture. It summarizes the projections, distills the messages and presents them for the generalist. The projections cover supply and demand for the major agricultural commodities and sectors, including fisheries and forestry. This analysis forms the basis for a more detailed examination of other factors, such as nutrition and undernourishment, and the implications for international trade.

En el presente nmero de Unasylva se examinan algunas de las muchas formas en que la informtica y la tecnologa conexa influyen en la silvicultura sostenible y han pasado a formar parte de ella.

This note on the Machobane system is based on information gathered by an FAO Investment Centre mission which visited Lesotho in July 1996 on behalf of the Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, to prepare the ground for the formulation of a Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Programme for possible IFAD financing. Observations of farmers attitudes and behaviour as well as relevant socio-economic data were collected in February 1996 in several villages of two Districts in Lesotho and are presented. Ce numro d'Unasylva est la suite logique du n 175 (Politiques et lgislations forestires) o l'on soulignait que, dans l'laboration de politiques et de lgislations nouvelles et pour un dveloppement durable des ressources forestires, le processus dynamique et participatif doit s'accompagner d'une rforme et d'un renforcement des institutions gouvernementales et non gouvernementales appeles jouer un rle majeur dans la mise en uvre de ces politiques. On passe donc en revue ici les changements institutionnels au secteur forestier oprs dans un certain nombre de pays.

Ainsi, pour parvenir aux rsultats souhaits, les activits d'amnagement des bassins versants doivent intgrer l'hydrologie forestire, la conservation des sols et des eaux et la planification de l'utilisation des terres dans un cadre logique plus vaste, qui tienne compte non seulement des interactions concrtes mais aussi des facteurs conomiques, sociaux et institutionnels. Le prsent numro d'Unasylva examine plusieurs aspects de l'amnagement des bassins versants.
