The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

This article discusses the transhumant pastoralists of the Abruzzo highlands of central Italy. The article indicates that this system of production depended, and still depends, on the availability of communal grazing areas where access is open to all local residents and management is joint. The article discusses the relationship between herders, common property regimes and the State.The article concludes that:as a pastoral system increases in complexity, from being a self contained CPR to an outward-looking one, with moveable assets and flocks, transaction costs increase.

El acceso de la mujer rural latinoamericana a la tierra
Como fruto de esta división del trabajo socialmente reconocida y aceptada, las mujeres rurales se enfrentan cotidianamente a un sinnúmero de obstáculos para llevar a cabo las actividades productivas, con miras a asegurar la subsistencia de sus familias. De hecho, barreras de orden jurídico, sociocultural e institucional limitan el acceso de las agricultoras a la tierra, así como su control sobre ella.
Reglamentaciones jurídicas sobre el acceso a la tierra de la mujer rural en países de América Central y el Caribe
El artículo tiene como finalidad identificar, desde el punto de vista jurídico, los obstáculos que impiden y/o limitan el acceso de la mujer a la tierra en cuatro países en los que se han adoptado reformas agrarias y cuyas condiciones políticas, económicas, sociales e institucionales son diferentes: Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua y la República Dominicana.
