The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

Le suivi et l'évaluation sont essentiels pour mesurer les progrès réalisés et les impacts biophysiques et socio-économiques des activités menées dans le cadre d'Action contre la désertification. Le S&E aide également Action contre la désertification à obtenir des résultats en veillant à ce que les objectifs soient clairement définis et réalisables, que la collecte de données soit correctement planifiée et que les données soient utilisées pour la prise de décision et pour l'amélioration continuelle du programme.

Freshwater, Fish and the Future
This publication is a compilation of presentations and recommendations resulting from the Global Conference on Inland Fisheries: Freshwater, Fish and the Future, convened at FAO HQ in January 2015 and is part of an MOU signed with Michigan State University. Contents include scientific papers on inland fisheries from a global perspective that cover biological and socio-cultural assessments, drivers and governance issues. Ten steps to responsible inland fisheries are included along with recommendations for their implementation.
Roadmap for the establishment of Forest Reference levels and the National Forest Monitoring System
The Government of Kenya is in the process of establishing a National REDD+ Programme through the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). Two critical elements of the National REDD+ Programme are forest reference levels (FRL) and a National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS). This document describes the steps towards establishing the design of the NFMS and reference levels, through an enumeration and description of required tasks.
Restauration des terres: Action contre la désertification
En 2016, Action contre la désertification se prépare à restaurer 10 000 hectares de terres et à planter des espèces d'arbres, d'arbustes et de graminées locales et bien adaptées localement dans six pays africains - le Burkina Faso, l'Éthiopie, la Gambie, le Niger, le Nigeria et le Sénégal.
