The "Bread for All-Protestant Development Service" recently released a document based on three case studies on the palm oil sector in Liberia.
The paper first analyses the general context in which the foreign investment on land for the production of biofuels increased, and describes the current political situation in Liberia.
Secondly, it assesses the international tools for regulating the large-scale land deals, as the Principles for Responsible Agriculture Investments promoted by the World Bank, and the Voluntary Guidelines by FAO.
The document continues with the description of the international and national legal framework governing the investments on agriculture, and concludes with the analysis of three exemples of main biofuels investments in Liberia.
