Contrairement à d'autres pays d'Afrique de l'Ouest, la Gambie est moins touchée par les investissements fonciers à grande échelle. Selon la matrice foncière, un grand contrat d'investissement dans les biocarburants a été conclu en 2012 pour une superficie de 30 000 hectares et a été abandonné en 2020.
