Les luttes pour le contrôle de terres précieuses et de ressources naturelles et minérales sont au cœur de nombreux conflits dans le monde. Nombre d'entre eux trouvent leur origine dans la conquête coloniale et l'accaparement post-colonial des ressources par des élites locales et mondiales de connivence. Les conflits fonciers sont souvent liés à des conflits de valeurs et de significations associées à la terre. Le risque de conflit augmente avec le changement climatique et la course au contrôle des ressources minérales et hydriques essentielles. Des millions de personnes risquent de perdre leurs moyens de subsistance et d'être déplacées.
