These Rules provide for the protection of land of which the slope exceeds a specified percentage. Cultivation, grazing, destruction of vegetation on such land without an authorization of the authorized officer shall be an offence. The soil shall be adequately protection against erosion by conservation works. Other offences defined by these Rules include grazing of livestock or destruction of vegetation near a watercourse and use of channel, ditch or drainage way which has been constructed for the removal of run-off water, for other purposes.

These Regulations reserved lands as a lay or common for the pasturage of animals. The number and kind of animals that may be pastured at any time on any of the lands by any individual owner shall be determined by the Council Committee. The Chief Agricultural and Natural Resources Officer may at his or her discretion order any animal that is aged or unsuitable for breeding to be removed from the lands or diseased animals to be treated.

This Ordinance empowers the Governor in Council to regulate various aspects of pasturage including reservation of land owned or leased by Government for the pasturage of animals subject to such restrictions and conditions as may be prescribed. The Council Committee shall be responsible for the carrying out of this Ordinance and Regulations made thereunder. The Ordinance also provides rules relative to impounding and marking of animals and provides that moneys raised under this Ordinance shall be paid into a fund called the Animal Husbandry Fund.

With the purpose of addressing issues related to agricultural activities and providing good management practice on how to avoid polluting water, air and soil, this Decree establishes certain practices to be applied by farmers and others involved in agricultural activities, named Codes of Good Agricultural Practice. The Codes aim at: the sustainable management of agricultural lands and natural resources, the protection and safeguarding of rural landscape and its specific characteristics, farmers and consumers health protection.

Public Gardens Regulation Act.

This Act provides for the management of public gardens, i.e. any land vested in the Commissioner of Lands, and designated by him or any entity acting on his behalf for use as public garden. It also prohibits various activities in such gardens and provides for seizure and impounding of stray animals. prohibited activities include: picking of fruits, plants or flowers; destroying of trees; and injuring of animals.

Parish Councils Act (Cap. 271).

This Act makes provision for the constitution of Parish Councils in Jamaica, defines their functions and powers, and provides with respect to their election, organization and administration and other relevant matters. Parish Councils shall be corporations and shall be successors to Municipal Boards, the Boards of Parochial Roads Commissioners and Parochial Boards constituted under the Parochial Boards Law, 1885.

Act on financing of reindeer husbandry and nature-related activities (No. 45 of 2000).

The purpose of this Act is to promote reindeer husbandry and related natural industries and make them more versatile. The Act also aims at improving the livelihood structure and operating environment in reindeer herding areas and to promote sustainable use of renewable natural resources, development of reindeer husbandry and natural nutrition, and to support the development of rural areas and communities in the reindeer herding areas. It provides rules relative to national and European Community financial support.

Pasture land reclamation and management.

The Instruction sets forth the rules and procedures to be followed in the implementation of pasture land reclamation and management projects executed by the General Directorate of Agricultural Research together with universities. The projects aim at increasing grazing capacity and pasture quality and minimizing soil erosion by reclamation of pasture lands.

Høgfjells in North Gudbrandsdal is an area allocated for lamb seasonal grazing. Lamb production from there encompasses municipalities of Dovre, Lesja, Lom, Oppland, Skjåk and Lom. A significant portion of this grazing area should be higher than 800 m. within said geographical landmark. Lambs shall be released for pasture as soon as grazing in this mountainous area is considered to be satisfactory (cows will graze for a minimum of 11 weeks in pastures located over 800 meters).

Regional Law No. 355-OZ “On allotment of land parcels for haymaking and grazing”.

This Regional Law establishes the modalities of allotment of public agricultural land to citizens for haymaking and grazing. It establishes dimensions of agricultural land parcels depending upon agricultural animal species owned by the citizens. If a citizens does not have agricultural animals then maximum dimension of agricultural land parcel allotted for haymaking shall be 0,15 ha and agricultural land parcels cannot be allotted thereto.

This Regional Law establishes the conditions for allotment of parcels of public or municipal agricultural land on lease to citizens for haying and grazing. Agricultural land parcels shall be allotted to citizens on condition of ownership of agricultural animals thereby. Minimum land area shall be 5 ha. Common access land areas, waterbodies and parks shall not be allotted for haying and grazing. Planting of perennial timber species and shrubbery, and also timber extraction shall be prohibited on land areas allotted for haying and grazing.
