Impact of shrimp farming on arable land and rehabilitation of resultant salt-affected soils/integrated soil management for sustainable use of salt-affected soils
The development of agricultural technologies and a better appreciation of the existing but under-utilised knowledge of resource management will be crucial in meeting the ecological needs and in achieving the anticipated food demands of the growing population in the future. The greatest challenge for the coming decades lies in the fact that the production environments are unstable and degrading. Land degradation is proceeding so fast that unless policies and approaches change, many countries will not be able to achieve sustainable agriculture in the foreseeable future.

Improved use of Plant Nutrients. Report of the Expert Consultation on Better Exploitation of Plant Nutrients, Rome, 18-22 April 1977
FAO organized an Expert Consultation in April 1977 with participants from countries consuming both a high and low quantity of fertilizer, to identify possibilities for a more intensive and rational utilization of the valuable plant nutrients in mineral and organic fertilizers, with emphasis on conditions in developing countries. The conclusions reached should serve interested countries as a guide for follow-up activities in the more rational use of plant nutrients at the research and practical level.

Land Tenure Journal 2/2011 - Revue des questions foncières 2/2011
This thematic issue of the Land Tenure Journal brings together theories and practices related to land tenure and climate change both from the mitigation and adaptation perspectives. Articles look at the implications that REDD+ and Payments for Environmental Services pose to land tenure and administration, propose approaches to deal with the new challenges and analyse the adaptation of local tenure systems and livelihoods to climate change.
Global planted forest thematic - supplement to Forest Resources Assessment 2005 - Guidelines for National Reporting Tables for Planted Forests
Globally, according to FRA 2000, planted forests accounted for only 5% of forest area, but up to 35% of industrial roundwood supply. This is anticipated to rise to 40-44% by 2020. Planted forests reflect a higher social, environmental and economic importance than their area would suggest. Many countries have existing planted forest data that is not based upon forest inventory, is incomplete and often outdated. Thus it is difficult to measure and plan the quantity and quality of planted forest resources and the provision of goods and services that they supply.
