Cette troisième réunion du groupe de travail Biodiversité, Habitat et Qualité de l’Eau a été ouverte conjointement par M. Birane Sambe, coordinateur régional du projet CCLME et M. Abou Bamba, secrétaire de la Convention d’Abidjan. M. Sambe a remercié l’ensemble des participants d’avoir effectué le déplacement. Selon lui, l’épidémie d’Ebola a causé beaucoup de perturbations de part le monde. C’est pourquoi, la réunion qui était prévue au Cap Vert n’a pu s’y tenir à cause de restrictions imposé par ce pays aux frontières. Il a déploré l’absence de la Guinée Bissau et du Cap Vert. M.

FAO has focused and integrated its work in the Region through three Regional Initiatives. The Initiatives respond to the priorities of member-states and will achieve demonstrable impact in a time bound manner, whilst responding to FAO’s Strategic Objectives. In Africa, the Regional Initiatives were developed based on an in-depth cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary review of regional issues.

The United Republic of Tanzania joined FAO in 1962, and in 1977 FAO established a country office. Over the years, the Organization has assisted the Government in the planning and implementation of its agricultural policies, strategies and programmes. FAO’s work in the country concentrates on improving food and nutrition security and the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, thereby creating the impetus for economic growth in the agriculture and rural sector.

Tokelau joined the Organization as an Associate Member in 2011. Over the past few years, FAO assistance to the Pacific Island Territory has contributed to the sustainable management of natural resources and food security. Interventions have focused on inshore fisheries as well as coastal and village land-use planning and efforts to increase household food production.

Cette publication présente les messages clés de la FAO sur le changement climatique et la sécurité alimentaire. Elle inclut des exemples du travail de la FAO pour aider les pays à s’adapter aux effets du changement climatique sur les secteurs agricoles. Elle rassemble les connaissances de la FAO sur le changement climatique les plus récentes, y compris les instruments et les méthodologies utilisés pour soutenir les engagements et les plans d’actions sur le changement climatique.

Since the 1960s, FAO has taken the lead in the fight against hunger in Somalia, supporting the Government and rural communities in times of crisis as well as in pursuit agricultural development goals. Special attention is devoted to helping rural communities withstand recurrent shocks, such as drought, flooding, and plant and animal pests and diseases. Through resilience programming, FAO balances technical support with the provision of quality inputs to prevent or lessen the impact of shocks to livelihoods and keep development gains intact.

Este mes, la celebración anual del Día Mundial del Agua tendrá lugar el 22 de marzo. El tema del Día de este año es Agua para las ciudades: respondiendo al desafío urbano. En el presente número examinamos algunos de los retos planteados por los recursos hídricos a causa de la rapidez de las migraciones, y estudiamos una posible solución para intensificar el aprovechamiento de dichos recursos.

The continuing and rapid degradation of rural watersheds has been a major concern for governments and civil society in Asia and the Pacific region. A root cause is the segmented management of land and water resources. This has been exacerbated by the cumulative and linked effects of an increase in demand for food, fuel and water due to population growth, competition for scarce land resources from biofuel production and a shift in preference for protein-rich diets. The expected adverse impact of climate change in the coming decades will most likely worsen the situation.

En el presente documento se examinan diversos casos de proyectos en que se aplicaron enfoques o principios basados en los modos de vida sostenibles y que, como consecuencia de ello, surtieron un efecto concreto en la reducción de la pobreza. Puesto que no se trata de un estudio comparativo entre éste y otros tipos de enfoques, no se han tomado en consideración casos de planteamientos más “tradicionales”.

Таджикистан сотрудничает с ФАО со времени вступления страны в Организацию в 1995 году. Первоначально помощь ФАО заключалась в реализации краткосрочных чрезвычайных мер реагирования в связи со вспышками саранчи, а также в оказании поддержки стране в период ее перехода к мирной жизни после гражданской войны. Впоследствии акцент сотрудничества сместился на проведение мероприятий по восстановлению и развитию в целях создания устойчивого сельскохозяйственного сектора и обеспечения продовольственной и пищевой безопасности.
