A study of Greenpeace reveals that coal mining has been growing enourmously recently in India, which leads to massive forest destruction and to endanger even more some already fragile species, like the Royal Bengal Tiger, India's symbol. Community rights to natural ressources granted for the first time in India for forest dwellers
Community rights are part of the Forest Rights Act, an India law supposed to guarantee the acces to land and natural ressources for (mainly) indigenous forest dwellers. Clash over Khas land in Bangladesh leaves one killed
Pirgong, Bangladesh - A young landless peasant was brutally killed in a landless territory called Zoykur at Pirgong, Thakurgoan district on July 3. Kamolakanto Kanu, member of the Joykur Peoples Organization which is facilitated by the Community Development Association (CDA) of Bangladesh, and ILC member. Kanu was brutally killed and 8 others were injured by local influential land grabbers. A certain Satu Ram and his group were trying to occupy the Khas land in Joykur village already occupied by Kanu’s group for the past 12 years.

The Land Observatory is a project involving those who will contribute, verify and update information on land deals to a web-based platform, and involving those who will explore this information and analyze it. There is no use in developers blindly building a platform without fully understanding the needs and desires of both of those sets of potential users.
Namibia: Law banning urban land auctions coming
The Namibian Government has put in motion plans to change the Local Authorities Act and to ban town councils from selling land through auctions or tender processes that prevent many low-income earners from owning properties due to inflated prices. The proposal is to change the sections of the Act which gives town councils the power to sell and lease urban land without consulting the line ministry.
