The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

The zero-deforestation movement has gained considerable momentum as governments and companies enter into commitments to curb deforestation. The most innovative are multi-stakeholder initiatives, where governments and international organi- zations have joined with the private sector and civil society organizations in making commit- ments to reduce deforestation. These pledges have created opportunities for improved forest governance by envisaging the private sector at the centre of the movement.

This workshop is conducted within the framework of the Implementation Plan of the Eurasian Soil Partnership, which is a sub-regional affiliation of the Global Soil Partnership.

Таджикистан сотрудничает с ФАО со времени вступления страны в Организацию в 1995 году. Первоначально помощь ФАО

заключалась в реализации краткосрочных чрезвычайных мер реагирования в связи со вспышками саранчи, а также в оказании

поддержки стране в период ее перехода к мирной жизни после гражданской войны. Впоследствии акцент сотрудничества

сместился на проведение мероприятий по восстановлению и развитию в целях создания устойчивого сельскохозяйственного

сектора и обеспечения продовольственной и пищевой безопасности.
