Journal of Contemporary Asia

JCA

JCA is an established refereed publication. It appeared quarterly from 1970 to 2016. From 2017, it has appeared 5 times a year.

When the journal was established, it was conceived as providing an alternative to mainstream perspectives on contemporary Asian issues. The journal maintains this tradition and seeks to publish articles that deal with the broad problems of economic, political and social development of Asia. Articles on economic development issues, political economy, agriculture, planning, the working class, people’s movements, politics and power, imperialism and empire, international financial institutions, the environment, and economic history are especially welcomed. The journal also has a strong interest in the scientific development of theory that is of global significance, especially on the role of the state, class analysis, power and globalisation.

Journal of Contemporary Urban Affairs

The journal promotes original academic contributions that are cross-disciplinary to strengthen research under three main areas: Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities; Territorial Studies; and Urban Transformations.

In this regard, the journal has aimed to:

  • discuss the role of urban planners, urban designers, and architects in enhancing social and economic aspects of the built environment.
  • discuss emerging social and economic challenges and problems facing global cities within other scientific fields.
  • develop theoretical and methodological foundations in respect of the social and economic problems of contemporary urbanization.
  • bring a scientific view to emerging social and economic challenges in urban spaces.
  • provide sufficient comparisons of different challenges and solutions facing cities and societies, as referred to in the aforementioned main aim of the journal.
  • discover and identify innovative methods and techniques to overcome the aforementioned challenges.

Contributions are welcome from across the full range of social sciences and arts and humanities disciplines. It is expected that the contributors will provide advanced empirical and theoretical knowledge referring to contemporary urban affairs - from both positive and normative perspectives. Priority for publication is given to research articles that are specifically written for a multidisciplinary audience with the highest quality and impact. In this regard, the journal looks for articles that are innovative and demonstrate excellent research and development.

Journal of Land Administration in Eastern Africa

JLAEA

The Journal of Land Administration in Eastern Africa (JLAEA) is publication of the Land Administration Unit that was set up at ARU in November 2009. JLAEA mirrors the aspirations of the Land Administration Unit at Ardhi University (ARU) whose mission is to ensure quality education and training, research, scientific publications, information dissemination, documentation and public services through integrated cross disciplinary team work in land administration. In November 2011, Ardhi University agreed to a suggestion by the newly established Eastern African Land Administration Network  (EALAN) to make the Journal, a property of the network. The EALAN  comprises of universities conducting education and training in land administration in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda.

Purpose of the Journal
The evolving need for a multi-disciplinary approach in land administration has been well captured by the United Nations institutions drawing experiences from different countries across the globe. In East Africa, land administration is increasingly becoming a crosscutting discipline and no longer limited to the mundane land allocation and use control enforcement processes. It is more diverse and anchored in information communication technology and democratic institutional systems within the land sector. For training institutions such as Ardhi University (ARU), the challenge has been to train the new brand of land administrator who will have to work with the single-discipline trained land sector specialists.

Journeyman Pictures

For over twenty years Journeyman has distributed and co-produced, provocative, profound and original factual content, working with the top players in the industry.

We're one of the leading independent suppliers of award winning stories to the global theatrical, broadcast, digital and educational markets, and pride ourselves on a position at the spearhead of the factual agenda. With a very successful catalogue covering a myriad of subjects and styles, from award-winning festival docs to hot new investigations and bold character stories, we always keep at heart a central journalistic ethic that goes to the very roots of the company.

After years reporting from war zones and producing independent docs, company founder Mark Stucke began formulating a distribution system that would bring a greater return for the valuable copyright he and his fellow producers were risking their necks to create. Twenty five years on our agenda remains the same: to always be looking for new ways to create revenue for the stories our partners tell.

The combination of interactive web platforms, a powerful publicity system and a strong sales focus means our films target both the market and the consumer directly.

Our direct relationships with Amazon, iTunes and Google allow us to avoid the middle man and ensure that our films are always discoverable and continually kept alive, even years after launch.

In a world driven by ratings and a quick entertainment fix, it is becoming increasingly challenging to get intelligent, independent productions seen. It is a challenge we thrive on. We’re constantly pushing forward new developments to keep ahead of an ever-changing game.

Just Associates

JASS

JASS believes that women who are most affected by the political, economic, environmental and health crises reverberating across the world are on the frontlines of change.  While they rarely have a seat at the decision-making table, they are organizing their communities, developing solutions and promoting justice—often at great risk for going against the grain. As a global women-led human rights network of activists, popular educators and scholars in 31 countries, we work to ensure women leaders are more confident, better organized, louder and safer as they take on some of the most critical human rights issues of our time.

Mission

JASS is dedicated to strengthening the voice, visibility, and collective organizing power of women to create a just, sustainable world for all. Our feminist movement-building and popular education strategies combine innovative learning, organizing, communications and action that equip and energize activists, expand alliances and mobilize women’s movements for greater political influence and to ensure the safety of activists in an increasingly risky world.  Founded in 2002 as a community of practice by activists, popular educators and scholars from 13 countries, JASS’ generates cutting-edge knowledge about power, movements and change to shape the theory, practice and policies for advancing women’s rights and democratic change.  Working with women and diverse organizations in 27 countries, JASS’ agile regional and international structure and processes are designed to support grassroots organizing as well as local-to-global solidarity and action, placing frontline activists and agendas at the heart of our social justice work.

Vision

We believe that achieving women’s equality is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century and one that will radically improve the lives of all peoples and the survival of our planet.  And feminism – maligned and misrepresented as it may be today – is rich with the kinds of ideas, values, vision and strategies that are vital for an alternative path toward a better, more people-and planet-centered democratic and peaceful world.

Solving gender inequality will improve everyone’s lives and reduce violence, yet defies magic bullets and linear solutions.  It is not simply a matter of courageous heroes, efficient organizations, new gadgets, better technology, clearer legislation, better research or more money – though all of these things can help.  Changing policies, laws, institutions and how they’re implemented are all essential but insufficient.

To ensure villagers’ voices and priorities reach influence decision makers, KHRG staff compile and analyze the field information into thematic reports, area reports or in targeted submissions.
  • Village Agency Workshops: Conducted at the community level, KHRG facilitates workshops that provide a space for villagers to share their experiences and support their self-protection strategies by gaining knowledge about international human rights standards and available national mechanisms that they can use to claim their rights.
  • Local and International Advocacy: By sharing our Field Research, KHRG hopes to ensure villagers’ voices and strategies for coping with human rights abuse reach decision-makers who can influence their lives.
