General Directorate of Agricultural Reform still use Storie Index method for land consolidation. In spied of knowing that there are insufficient parts of this method, not much studies on alternative methods have been carried out yet. The aim of this study is to compare Land Quality Index and Storie Indeks to determine soil index which is one of the most important phases in land consolidation projects. This study was carried out about 273 ha area in Örencik village and its near vicinity located at Bafra district of Samsun province. Land mapping units and some soil parameters required for indexes were taken from digitized detailed soil map. Soil index values obtained from each method were compared with the consideration of land and soil characteristics of each mapping units, and results were assessed in the scope of determination of soil indexes in terms of applicability for so-called methods in land consolidation. According to results, while 237.86 ha of the total area was classified as very good and good, 34.96 ha was classified as medium class in Storie Index. On the other hand, according to Land Quality Index, 198.87 ha of the total area was classified as suitable for agricultural activity (S1) whereas about 11.49% of the study area was classified as non-suitable class. In addition to that, about 13% of the study area’s lands were also classified as low according to LQI. Besides, the effects and different results of Storie Index and Land Quality Index maps on plot number values were determined.
