The Land Facility is a global programme funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) that partners with governments to strengthen land governance.

The Land Facility aims to advance effective and sustainable national land governance reforms and land administration systems. The Land Facility (LF) is the main component of the FCDO’s wider Global Land Governance Programme which aims to develop a critical foundation for inclusive growth, sustainable land use and stability in focus regions of Africa, Southeast Asia anUK International Developmentd Latin America.

Launched in April 2024, the Land Facility focuses on incremental steps on the critical path to sustained reforms and scaled results.

Land Facility will support activities in three primary areas:

  • Incentives and evidence to back political, financial and operational commitment;
  • Capacity to sustain reforms and results; and
  • Coordination to design reforms for success, aligned with social, economic or environmental priorities

In doing so, the Land Facility will promote fit-for-purpose land governance that aligns with key principles in the Voluntary Guidelines on the Governance of Tenure (VGGTs), such as the need to recognise and protect all legitimate tenure rights. The Land Facility will draw on learning and evidence from within and beyond the programme to enable it to adapt to changing contexts and emerging insights.

The programme is now in early implementation phase and runs to December 2030.
