Doha document for peace in Darfur

The Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) is the outcome of over two years of negotiations, dialogues, and consultations with major parties involved in the Darfur conflict, relevant stakeholders, and international partners. Finalized at the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference in 2011, it provides a comprehensive framework for the peace process in Darfur. The Government of Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement have committed to this agreement. The DDPD addresses the root causes of the conflict and its consequences, including power sharing, wealth sharing, human rights, justice and reconciliation, compensation and return, and internal dialogue. The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) provided technical expertise during the drafting process and continues to support the document's dissemination and encourages non-signatory movements to join. The DDPD is structured into seven chapters, each addressing a different aspect of the conflict and its resolution. These include human rights and fundamental freedoms, power-sharing and the administrative status of Darfur, wealth sharing, compensation and the return of internally displaced persons and refugees, justice and reconciliation, permanent ceasefire and final security arrangements, and internal dialogue and consultation. The agreement also includes an implementation timetable. The establishment of the Darfur Land Commission (DLC) is of particular relevance to land governance, focusing on the management and resolution of land disputes, a key factor in the Darfur conflict.
