At the Land Portal Foundation, our vision is a world with improved land governance that supports people with insecure land rights, protects those vulnerable to landlessness, and ensures open access to information for all.
The Foundation has entered a new chapter, as we say farewell to Laura Meggiolaro, leader of the Land Portal Team since it began as a small project in 2009. Laura’s tremendous dedication and hard work have seen the organisation grow from struggling start-up to a thriving non-profit Foundation by 2025. The Foundation’s Board and Team wholeheartedly wish Laura success in her next endeavour.
A few small highlights from Laura’s tenure include the growth in our global user community of over 25,000 people; well-received knowledge products and webinars; and development of pioneering initiatives such as the SOLIndex (State of Land Information Index) and the GeoPortal. Laura has led the phenomenal growth of the Land Portal to become the “go-to” place for knowledge management needs and open data advocacy in the wider land governance sector, shepherding the organisation into a key position within the global land governance ecosystem.
Laura hands over to Charl-Thom Bayer, Senior Land Information Specialist, whom we are pleased to welcome into the role of Acting Team Leader. We are excited by all the new opportunities ahead, as our organisation continues to grow and mature in pursuit of our mission to nurture a growing information ecosystem on land governance to inform and improve decision-making, policy and practice at all levels.
