A necessidade de avançar com o processo de regularização fundiária na Amazônia é um ponto fundamental no texto da Medida Provisória nº 759/2016, que atualmente está em discussão no Congresso Nacional. Outras razões de o Governo Federal propor tal edição são a modernização dos instrumentos de fiscalização do uso da terra e a possibilidade de readequação dos ocupantes de áreas da União com vistas à renegociação de títulos. Para isso, a MP altera parte da Lei nº 11.952/2009 e transforma o Programa Terra Legal em uma política permanente de regularização.
