A disputa por terra tem gerado conflitos em uma área do município de Curianópolis, sudeste Paraense.

O imóvel denominado de Fazendinha pertence a União, mas um fazendeiro reivindica a posse da mesma e se recusa sair do local. Na mesma área, também está um grupo de trabalhadores rurais sem terra que esperam ter acesso à terra por meio de assentamento da reforma agrária.

O ouvidor Agrário Nacional, Jorge Tadeu Jatobá, está na região para tentar mediar uma solução para o conflito. Ele relata a situação na área.

They also demand resettlement, after attempts to occupy a nearby space was met with threats by private land owners.

KOIDU, Sierra Leone, May 5 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A dispute over a bridge in eastern Sierra Leone thought to span diamond deposits has divided a local community with a foreign mining company accused of illegally mining the area after volunteering to rebuild the overpass.

The Congo Bridge in Koidu, the capital of Kono District, was deemed by local authorities to be in danger of collapsing after years of illegal small-scale mining around the base.

Monrovia - Amid the prolonged delay in the passage of the Land Rights Act into law, the Civil Society Working Group on land rights in collaboration with its partners are doing everything possible to ensure the passage of the act.

The group, in collaboration with the Rights and Rice Foundation on Monday, May 2, held a one-day national consultation dialogue with many organizations on the passage of the draft Land Rights Act.

A group of indigenous leaders in northeastern Brazil came under a brutal attack late Sunday by ranchers in a violent escalation of territorial disputes. The attack is the latest in a string of sometimes deadly assaults on activists.

Genebra – O Brasil “fracassou” em proteger os direitos dos povos indígenas.

A constatação foi feita por relatores da ONU em documentos que serão utilizados como base para um exame na sexta-feira (5) da política de direitos humanos do Brasil, em Genebra.

“É motivo de preocupação o fracasso do estado em proteger as terras indígenas de atividades ilegais, especialmente em mineração e madeireiros”, indicaram relatores das Nações Unidas, citados no informe distribuído para todos os governos.

They won’t be finding much peace from the agreement Colombia’s government and FARC insurgents signed in late 2016 to end their war. The government’s chief negotiator, Humberto de la Calle, said as much in 2012 when negotiations were beginning.
