30 November 2015, a ceremony has been held in Rome where the World Rural Forum received the Jaques Diouf award from the FAO, in recognition of its support for dialogue between rural communities and its political promotion of family farming.

“This award belongs to the men and women of Family Farming, with a special mention going to the partner associations of the WRF and the National Committees. The impressive and essential work that they carry out, which was clearly demonstrated during the IYFF-2014, must be firmly supported by the governments through specific public policies, with the aim of creating a context and suitable conditions, so that this key sector can better develop its work”, Jose Mari Zeberio, President of the World Rural Forum.

The WRF shows its gratitude and shares this recognition with all those organisations, institutions and people who have in the past few years worked on the campaign for the declaration of the International Year of Family Farming, as well as during the successful celebrations of the past year. Thanks to the commitment and hard work from all those involved, we have managed to put Family Farming at the top of the international agenda.

This award encourages us to continue working for sustainable rural development and Family Farming, within the framework of the IYFF+10 initiative of the Family Farming Global Push, with the aim of giving continuity to the results of the IYFF-2014 and carrying on promoting public policies for the men and women of the countryside and sea. We are always in search of collaboration and maximum understanding between different farming organisations, rural associations, research centres, governments and international bodies.
