La 5ème édition de la Conférence sur la politique foncière en Afrique qui vient de s’achever arrive à un moment critique où les pays africains définissent leurs visions du développement et se positionnent sur les marchés régionaux et mondiaux tout en mettant en place l’infrastructure politique et institutionnelle nécessaire pour libérer le potentiel de divers cadres de développement tels que la Zone de libre-échange continentale africaine.

Le droit à la terre est un droit fondamental qui a des implications pour d'autres droits, tels que le droit à l'alimentation et le droit à la sécurité. Récemment, les taux élevés de croissance démographique, l'expansion urbaine non réglementée et la mauvaise utilisation des ressources ont entraîné la dégradation des terres, la perte de biodiversité et des conflits d'accès. Une approche intégrée et participative de l'utilisation et de la gestion des terres est essentielle si l'on veut que les ressources soient utilisées de manière durable et équitable à l'avenir.

With an objective to address water-related issues, the then Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI) was established in September 1979 EC (1986). AWTI offered short and long-term training; conducting research, and consultancy services in the water sector.


The Future Agricultures Consortium is an Africa-based alliance of research organisations seeking to provide timely, high-quality and independent information and advice to improve agricultural policy and practice in Africa.

The Rift Valley Institute (RVI) is an independent, non-profit organization, founded in Sudan in 2001, currently working in seven countries in Eastern and Central Africa. The aim of the Institute is to advance useful knowledge of the region and its diverse communities, bringing a better understanding of local realities to bear on social and political action. The RVI works with institutions in the region to develop and implement long-term programmes that combine action-oriented research with education and public information.

The Sate of Amhara is located in the north western and north central part of Ethiopia. The State shares common borders with the state of Tigray in the north, Afar in the east, Oromiya in the south, Benishangul/Gumuz in the south west, and the Republic of Sudan in the west.
