Yemen: Food security is govt's most significant priority, Minister says

Planning and International Cooperation Minister said on Thursday that achieving food security in Yemen is the government's most significant priority, adding that providing food sources comes first of the government's interests.

During his meeting with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition David Nabarro, Mohammed al-Sa'adi praised the cooperation offered by many regional and international organizations to help Yemen alleviate the repercussions of the humanitarian and health situations generated by the food problem.

The Minister indicated to the government's underway vigorous efforts to address the food problem in Yemen through the implementation of a national strategy to achieve food security and the promotion of cooperation and partnership with the UN, donors and the private sector.

The UN official reiterated the UN's adherence to continue to provide all aspects of support required to help Yemen reduce the food problem-generating humanitarian and health impacts.

Nabarro praised the interest shown by the Yemeni government to implement the national strategy to achieve food security, stressing that the UN will continue to support government efforts aimed at handling the food problem in Yemen.
