What information can I contribute?

In the Land Portal website, we distinguish different types of content. You can find the overview below.

As a 'regular' user, you are able to add certain types of content. If you have more information and would like to be able to add more resources, please contact us to upgrade your user status with more permission at hello@landportal.info.

News items are the most commonly published content type on the Land Portal. Along with news headlines, this section includes announcements from the land governance community such as calls for papers, launches of new publications or initiatives, and opportunities for grants, research, or jobs. News items will be displayed on the news page and can be promoted to the Land Portal home page by a site administrator.

What will happen with the information I contribute?

Information that you publish on the Land Portal will be published as Linked Open Data. Your information will be free to download, use and re-used by anyone - but you will always retain ownership.

This means that the information is available through our Linked Open Data triple store where people can download it, and your information is licensed according to a Creative Commons Attributions license. This means that users are free to use and re-use this information, if they credit the source. (The exception is the Land Library, where the license applies only to the metadata and not the publication itself.)

So when you add information to the Land Portal, please make sure that you have the correct permissions to publish this information. If your information is published without your permission, please contact us and we will remove the information right away.

Enriching your information through metadata

When adding information to the Land Portal, you will have to fill in several fields describing the information you are adding. These fields together make the metadata of your information. It will show users as well as machines what they can expect when they dig into your information. This makes your content much more discoverable and prone to be used!

To classify and structure the content on the website, the Land Portal makes use of several standard and controlled vocabularies. These are vocabularies that relate to the topic, geographical coverage, types of resources, among others. These vocabularies help you browse through content on the Land Portal website and search for particular information.

Take a look at the different standard vocabularies the Land Portal uses and use it to browse through all the content on the Land Portal website.

If you are interested in the data models for each type of content that the Land Portal holds, please visit this page. The Land Portal aims to follow the standard and generally accepted data models for each content type.
