Agricultural land

Agricultural Area (1'000 Ha) is the land area mainly devoted to agriculture. It includes arable land, permanent crops, and permanent pasture, as defined by FAO.

Arable Land

Arable land (1'000 Ha) is the land under temporary agricultural crops (multiple-cropped areas are counted only once), temporary meadows for mowing or pasture, land under market and kitchen gardens and land temporarily fallow (less than five years). The abandoned land resulting from shifting cultivation is not included in this category. Data for "Arable land" are not meant to indicate the amount of land that is potentially cultivable.

Forest land

It measures the area (1'000 Ha) covered by forest. The forest is aa portion of land bigger than half a hectare  with trees higher than 5 meters and a tree canopy cover of more than 10 %, or with trees that will be able to meet these criteria. It does not include land that is predominantly under agricultural or urban land use.

Land area

Land area is the total area (1'000 Ha) of the country excluding area under inland water bodies.

Permanent crops

Permanent crops (1'000 Ha) - land cultivated with long-term crops which do not have to be replanted for several years (such as cocoa and coffee); land under trees and shrubs producing flowers, such as roses and jasmine; and nurseries (except those for forest trees, which should be classified under "forest")

Permanent meadows and pastures

Permanent meadows and pastures - land used permanently (five years or more) to grow herbaceous forage crops, either cultivated or growing wild (wild prairie or grazing land). Data are expressed in 1000 hectares.

Relative agricultural land

Share (%) of Agricultural Land with respect to the Total Land Area.

Relative arable land

Share (%) of Arable Land with respect to the Total Land Area.

Relative forest land

Share (%) of Forest Land with respect to the Total Land Area.
